Strategic Plan for 2002 through 2006 (Adopted 4/28/02)

A strategic plan may seem like a dense document to read through, but it reflects broader board decisions about where to start and how to implement the core programs needed to restore the American chestnut. The blueprint will be modified and changed yearly reflecting our growth and aspirations. Join us and help shape the future.

Strategic Plan of MA Chapter of TACF --- 1/2002, Revised March 18th

Introduction:
The Strategic Plan for the Massachusetts Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation is an extension and complement to both the national strategic plan of TACF and the statement of Mission in the Massachusetts Charter.

Every member of The American Chestnut Foundation is committed to the mission of our organization: to restore the tree to its native forests through breeding and research. The purpose of the Strategic Plan is to translate the general goals of TACF into a specific action plan and to establish a time line for completion by creating a detailed list of the tasks needed to achieve all the goals.

Our mission with regard to American chestnut restoration can be described in terms of several primary program goals:
A. Protect, conserve, preserve, and propagate trees from diverse remaining native Massachusetts American chestnut populations in the state.
B. Make blight-resistant American chestnuts derived from Massachusetts genetic stocks available to the people of Massachusetts.
C. Establish self-propagating blight-resistant forest clusters or groves of Massachusetts derived American chestnuts within selected forest study sites in cooperation with Massachusetts private and public forest landholders.
D. Restore American chestnuts to a place of ecological and economic importance and self-sustainability throughout the forests in Massachusetts.
E. Build an organizational structure to support a long-range vision and commitment to sustained effort over 30 years.
